Janet's Flowers & Wedding Chapel

Order Now

We are here in Modesto, California.  I’m talking with Ann, the general manager of Janet’s Flowers.  So Ann, tell us about your shop:

“This is a great shop, really busy. We have a lot of commercial orders, and we do a lot of funeral work. We have a wedding chapel next door that was built in 1937.  We do a number of small weddings during the week, and then weekends we have wedding receptions.  Our specialty is funeral work.  We do it all!

“We carry a variety of plants and flowers.  If somebody wants a plant for sympathy we send out azaleas, peace lilies, orchids, or European gardens.  Azaleas are good to plant in memory of loved ones.  For everyday, bouquets wrapped in burlap are a hit for the summer.  We carry a lot of these!

“We also sell a lot of dozen rose arrangements for those traditional guys. We are really picky about where we get our roses from. We want the big and perfect Ecuadorian roses that fully open.

“I think that the most romantic thing a guy can do is stop in on his way home from work for no special occasion.  Maybe she’s already told him her favorite flower.  Or, I think just a mixed summer wildflower bouquet is the most romantic."

Ann Gives An Insider's Perspective
                          Janet's Flowers & Wedding Chapel
“We get all kinds of special request orders.  On one occasion, somebody wanted to give their mom an edible arrangement, but not pineapple and strawberries. I got Swiss chard, all different shapes and shades of kale, carrots, beets, and other foods that had rich and full beautiful colors. I designed it as a hand-tied bouquet with burlap. And she could just take that home and sauté it up!

“Last week I did a sympathy piece for a peach farmer.  It was a wooden cross with peach branches and fresh peaches. It was comforting to the family to see an arrangement that reflected his life as a farmer.

“We had a mother with her young children look through the sympathy book trying to find something for their dad who just passed. They ended up picking out the word ‘DAD’.  It was unbelievably huge.  It was six feet across and took about fifteen bunches of carnations.  My boss got all teary eyed delivering it because he’s a dad too, and it really hit home."

“Flowers should not be reserved just for a special occasion. The most remembered flowers are the ones given for no reason. It’s that spur of the moment, surrounding yourself with flowers that brightens your day.  It takes you to a different place when you stop and smell the flowers. It calms you, it refreshes your mind, and it’s good for your soul.”

“Our chapel and courtyard came about when we were trying to utilize the property behind us.  The owners, Tammy and Johnny, had the vision to turn the house and garden behind the shop into a chapel.

“The chapel has a full kitchen, dressing room, bar, and courtyard. We have all shapes and sizes of weddings. We can accommodate up to 65 guests in our lovely chapel or in our garden courtyard.

“This is an awesome place to work; I have been here 27 years.   All of our employees have been here for a long time- that just shows you what a nice family operation we have here."

The Magic of Flowers and Plants

Flowers always say, "You're special!"
There is nothing like the thrill of receiving flowers. You feel special: someone is thinking about you, wanting to lift your spirits and make your day!  Flowers touch all our senses, from visual vibrant colors to sweet fragrances.  These powerful elements evoke pleasant memories of past times.  Flowers are timeless, and bring those sweet memories to the present.
Who isn’t thrilled by the brilliance of color, the richness of life in the garden!  We give plants and flowers  because we love the beauty of the outdoors.  Giving plants and flowers as gifts brings the garden indoors for us to enjoy.

More to consider:
Flowers can be a gift for anyone.
From son to father, daughter to mom, friend to friend... tell someone they are special with flowers.  Give flowers at unexpected times. Giving flowers is a spontaneous act of kindness that will brighten any person’s day.  Consider flowers as a thank you!  Acknowledge all that someone has done for you by giving them flowers.
The bottom line: let someone know that you are thinking about them. Flowers always say, “I’m here for you!”

There is a whole world of flowers out there...
get to know them!

Flowers come in a marvelous variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.  Try something new and interesting the next time you order.   By learning the flower choices, you can personalize your arrangements to suit your taste or that of your recipient.  For example, if your mom loves hydrangeas, you will know what to ask for.
Ordering from a florist is going to be much easier when you can tell them specifically what flowers you like. The guide that follows represents some of the more common flower choices available in flower shops.  Ask your florist for their expert opinion in picking your flowers.  Working closely with your florist will get you the best results!
